Once a student has been accepted to LICHSON, it is expected that all general education courses will be completed at St Francis College.
The Office of Student Services in collaboration with the Academic Standing Committee makes a determination about transfer credit.  Requests for transfer credit for courses taken at other accredited institutions will be evaluated by the Academic Standing Committee.

Transfer credit may be awarded for general education courses completed with a “C” or better at an accredited institution, provided content is comparable to that of courses at the affiliated college. Applicants who have attended college must submit official transcripts from each institution attended. The applicant may be required to present a catalog description and official course outline for each course being considered.  A minimum cumulative index of 2.0 is required for those prescribed courses in the AAS curriculum.

In order to transfer credits for science courses, they must have been taken within the past five years and must have a laboratory component.  Anatomy and Physiology I and II must be completed at the same institution.  In special instances, the Academic Standing Committee reserves the right to make decisions in exception to this guideline.

Permission to transfer a course should not be assumed. Decisions of the Office of Student Services and the Academic Standing Committee related to transfer of credits are final. Students will receive documentation of assigned course transfer credits prior to the beginning the nursing program.

Students who have completed course work in a foreign country and would like to receive transfer credit for liberal arts courses must submit an evaluation from World Education Service or Globe Service. LICHSON and/or St. Francis College will make the determination regarding the application of transfer credits.

Students may use the CLEP examinations or Excelsior College examinations for transfer credit for selected liberal arts courses in the Long Island College Hospital of Brooklyn School of Nursing curriculum.  Students are encouraged to discuss these options during the admission and registration period.  Students are directed to the Office of Student Services and to the College Board web site for further information about CLEP examinations. Students are directed to the Office of Student Services and to the web site www.excelsior.edu for Excelsior College examinations. Students must register for the courses independently and assume all costs for the testing. The results from CLEP or Excelsior College examinations must be received by the Office of Students Services three (3) weeks prior to the beginning of the semester in which the course is required at the School of Nursing. Exceptions may be considered on an individual basis.
