How to Apply

Dear Student:

Welcome to the Long Island College Hospital School of Nursing!
Here are a few steps to aid you in the application process for financial aid:

Step I

If you are planning to apply for any type of Federal and/or State Grants or Loans you must first complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This is the first step in determining eligibility for the Federal Pell Grant, Federal Family Education Loans (Stafford Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans), and LICH Nursing Scholarships.

Complete the FAFSA online at: www.fafsa.ed.gov but you must first apply for a personal identification number (PIN) at www.pin.ed.gov. The federal school code is: 014321 for all LICH. The deadline to file FAFSA is May 15, 2009. Students who submit aid applications after the deadline jeopardize their chances of receiving financial assistance.

Step II

After completing the FAFSA application you will receive a confirmation number and on the same page you will see a link to the HESC website where you will apply for the TAP Grant.

TAP code is 0389 for School of Nursing
TAP code is 1640 for School of Radiologic Technology

Step III

To apply for Stafford Loans you must first go to: www.hesc.com to complete the e-MPN (master promissory note). You will be using the same user id and pin that you used to set up your TAP application so have it handy. Note: once you’ve completed the e-MPN you will be prompted to this link: http://mappingyourfuture.org to complete entrance loan counseling.

Step IV

Once you have completed Steps I through III, the Financial Aid Office may ask you to submit verification documents which are required for Title IV Program eligibility. Sample verification documents may include: copy of signed student and spouse’s (if married) Federal Income Tax returns and W2’s (1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ) and/or signed copy of parent’s Federal Income Tax Return and W2’s from previous year. Other items that may be verified: citizenship status, selective service status, number of household family members, and number of family members attending postsecondary educational institutions, and certain untaxed income and benefits for the base or previous year.

After the school has received all required forms and applicable documentation, students will receive an award letter itemizing the financial aid for which they are eligible.
